  • Roundtable discussion on the converging threats facing the South Caucasus

    GIP in cooperation with The Fund for Peace (FFP)  facilitated a roundtable discussion at Tbilisi State University on the converging threats of WMD proliferation, illicit trafficking, terrorism, and state weakness in the South Caucasus. This event was held at Tbilisi State University on 13 December 2012.  Presentations and discussions addressed how to assess existing and potential mechanisms for regional cooperation to combat the interrelated threats outlined above among nations of the South Caucasus. A group, consisting representatives of International Organizations, NGOs, Think tanks, etc focused on exploring practical measures such as conducting joint investigations, and the harmonization of legal provisions concerning transnational crime and terrorism. 

     
  • Tbilisi Conference on Good Governance in the Black Sea Region

    The Tbilisi conference held on 7-9 June, 2012 at TSU was built on the successful project started in Odessa,Ukraine May 2011 and briought together experts, academics, civil society representatives and diplomats from different countries of the European Union and the Black Sea Region (including the South Caucasus) to look at the state of play on democratic culture and governance, progress made to date and challenges for faster implementation in the future.

  • Summer School on Cross-Border Cooperation in the Black Sea Region

    With the support of the  Black Sea Trust for Regional Cooperation A Project of the German Marshall Fund of the U.S. and Robert Bosch Stiftung  and in cooperation with Federal Ministry of European and International Affairs of Austria, The Georgian Institute of Politics  organized Summer school in Batumi on 10-14 June 2012. Project brought together youth involved in civil society and engaged in peace and governance initiatives for the purpose of exploring European values, enhancing cross border understanding through an appreciation of eg political and civic education, the role of political history, media stereotypes eg gender and nations after which mutual tolerance should have a better chance to stabilise security in the region for the future.
